#girlboss on girl for granted

Look, I love a good rags to riches story as much as anyone. When Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso released her memoir/business manual a few months ago, I all but ran to the bookstore to get it, and devoured it in a couple of flights. #GIRLBOSS is easy to read, insightful and has cute illustrations at the start of each chapter – even though I read it a couple of months ago now, I still flick through to revisit the illustrations from time to time. With no further ado…

In 100ish Words or Less:
Sophia Amoruso morphs from a dumpster diving, anti-leg shaving, can’t hold a job down, annoyingly alternative 20-something, to CEO of one of the most successful online fashion retailers in about five minutes. She shares her version of how she achieved this (all credit due, she worked incredibly hard and her success certainly did not come about overnight), and gives advice for the unwitting, and even witting, entrepreneur everywhere.

The End Result:
#GIRLBOSS is actually really motivating. And insightful. It’s wickedly smart yet funny without being condescending, which is a rarity when it comes to memoirs/business manuals/entrepreneurial bibles. It also has really awesome sketches at the start of each chapter, and it looks good on your bookshelf. It’s Lean In for a younger audience. (I imagine, I’m yet to actually get through Lean In).
