Ankle boots have been a consistent favourite in my wardrobe for a few years now, and considering the state mine are in, it’s probably time for an upgrade. I find it helpful to have a couple of pairs – one in black to work with just about everything; a bit more polished for nighttime occasions, and another in tan, brown or a neutral for a more casual look. As I have been looking for a new pair myself, it occurred to me that I’m probably not the only one gearing up for autumn and looking for a new pair of boots. To help you in your own search, I’ve rounded up options at a lot of different price points, but in my experience, you really do get what you pay for when it comes to shoes. Can I justify the Rag & Bone, Isabel Marant, Guiseppe Zanotti or Acne beauties pictured above (10, 5, 7, 12 respectively)? Maybe. Break them down into cost per wear and see how you feel about it then. In the mean time, the Witchery, Country Road and Tony Bianco (2, 1, 8) options will do, without breaking the bank.
You can team these picks with just about anything already in your wardrobe – skinny jeans, chambray or a tee for a fresh casual look; summer dresses to make them autumn appropriate; or with a leather skirt and a chunky knit for a winter look. Just be aware of the proportions of your outfit, and be conscious of where the top of the boot hits your ankle/shin – too high, in too dark a colour, and you risk looking stumpy.
